ABET: a means to combat poverty and crime
Lead the Field’s prospective involvement in that of the training of ABET facilitators within the provincial sectors.
ABET – Directorates, we wish to emphasise and summarise the added value which we bring to Facilitator Training as is given below:
1. We believe that ABET extends far beyond becoming literate and numerate.
2. We believe ABET establishes the most important frontier and trenches in combating poverty and crime in our country.
3. We believe that every ABET Presenter or Facilitator must be fully equipped to model self- confidence, self-esteem, self-motivation and self-discipline to learners. This modeling example will create the “90% non-conscious” learning to which is referred to in all brain-based research (Each candidate attending our training will receive a publication dealing with brain-based learning).
4. We believe that no teacher or presenter or training instructor can teach anything worthwhile to a learner with low self-esteem, low self-confidence, low self-motivation and low self-discipline. And such subsequent learning will in no way combat the mentioned social evils.
5. Our approach is based on principles of adult education (Andragogy) rather than on child-oriented teaching (Pedagogy).
6. Our training is not directed towards specific learning materials. Any well-structured materials can be used. We are primarily concerned with the facilitator, the kind-pin in the process.
