Established in 1969 by the Minister of Public Works as an independent agency to bring impartial judgement to the evaluation of innovation non-standardised construction products and systems in the interest of the consumer.
In it’s 40 years Agrément has developed a solid reputation in South Africa and abroad for its exemplary technical evaluations. The certificated are normally regarded as Rolls Royce certificates by industry experts due to the stringent and robust evaluation criteria and assessments programme.
These certificates provides technical assurance of the performance of the products which have been tested by an independent technical assessment agency; and also undergone a robust industry peer review process. This provides specifiers and designers peace of mind of the performance of these products and allows them to be used in construction projects which are covered by the South African National Building Regulations.
Therefore the Agrément certificates enables innovative construction products to reach the market. Innovative products can be defined as products where no National Building standards exist. Therefore when Agrément receives applications for assessments, the first step is normally to check whether any standards exist, and if, there are none, then the Agency develops and assessment of the innovative product.
