A host of new brands have entered the South African market in the boom period before the current worldwide economic slump. Time will tell how many of these will survive during the recession. Some have already closed their doors. Tough times tend to separate the wheat from the chaff – only the resilient will survive.
The South African motoring landscape is already changing. Large cars and SUVs sell more poorly, as do eccentric, low-volume brands. The boomers are the established brands and top sellers and, of course, small and economical cars. We are likely to see an ever bigger variety of economy cars for sale in South Africa before long.
