The Academy of Inventive Design and Technology (Academy IDT) brings to life the finest in technical drawings which have been produced by South Africa’s aspiring imaginations.
This belief — to enable young minds with the skill to draught the present, and re-design the future — is held by all members of the Academy IDT’s staff, and so too must be held by all potential graduates of this design academy.
Academy IDT brings new a meaning to that of ’student life’.
From the very first day, students realise that this is no ordinary campus; fingerprint-access, cctv, and climate-control, alone, are all electronically coordinated to open the doors of this corporate/academic environment — as well as, less literally, to the futures of our students. Once the doors to the building and students’ futures open, professional values are, from then on, strictly enforced at all levels — from dress code through to computer-aided drawing.
Academy IDT has a vested interest in the success of all of students, which is the reason why 24/7 access to lecture rooms, lounges, and facilities, as well as unlimited access to lecturers — concerning extracurricular assistance — are some of the many things on offer, which we encourage students to take advantage of.
Throughout their educational walk, students are introduced to the latest work- and internet-related research techniques, which hereby means that they are provided with the most relevant learning materials, recommended to us by our industry partners.
Enrolled, full-time students are exposed to a number of different computer-aided (CAD) softwares, increasing and sharpening their skills, which makes them, as individuals, relevant and valuable in such an industry, and all the actual lessons prove to be exciting, as students enjoy being on campus.
Here they are given an holistic educational experience to the career they have chosen.
Academy IDT offers a three-year programme of study:
The first year is an intense, multi-disciplinary, full-time programme. During this year, students are exposed to various sectors of draughting, including mechanical, architectural, civil, piping, and electrical drawing, as well as structural steel detailing and industrial design.
Following first year, graduates are employable within a drawing office as ‘Junior Draughtsperson’. Second and third years of study are part-time programmes, during which students may begin to specialize in particular fields of draughting and design.
So welcome to Academy IDT
