UNAIDS Humanitarian Guidelines Released In 2009
Humanitarian settings such as refugee camps on the borders of countries are high risk areas for the spreading of HIV. It is essential to set up testing and care services at these humanitarian settings to prevent the outbreak of large scale infections. Some of the points highlighted by the guidelines are that of prevention of mother to child infection, adequate food, protection, sheltering, and education regarding HIV infections. HIV awareness must be increased and adequate care given to sick persons. Water and hygiene conditions in such camps must be addressed in addition to the provision of HIV treatment programs and counselling to the refugees.
